BANGOR — The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors went on a 13-2 run in the first quarter and never looked back in a 71-27 win over Katahdin in a MPA Class D girls basketball regional championship game played Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.
Cami Shields and Emmalee Landry had six points each in the first quarter as the Lady Warriors raced out to a 20-6 lead after the first eight minutes. Ally Shields had nine points in the second quarter as Southern Aroostook expanded the lead to 39-10 at intermission.
Southern Aroostook outscored Katahdin 32-17 in the second half and rolled into another state championship game appearance. Ally Shields led the way with 23 points, three steals, and two assists. Cami Shields filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and six steals. Landry had 15 points, six rebounds, five steals, and six blocks. Southern Aroostook (20-1) will take on Valley in the Class D State Championship game on Saturday, March 2nd at 1 PM at the Augusta Civic Center. The Warriors will be seeking their third straight gold ball.
Ayanna Lester had 13 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and three blocks to lead the Lady Cougars. Shelby Libby added nine points and seven rebounds. Katahdin finishes the season as the regional runner-up with a 14-8 record.
