Win streak at 19, as Husson softball sweeps Thomas College

April 27, 2024

The Husson University softball team extended their winning streak to 19 on Saturday afternoon, holding rival Thomas College to just one run during a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader sweep on Senior Day for the Terriers in Waterville.

Game 1- Husson got a first inning RBI single from Kenzie Dore, and that is all they would need in a 7-0 win. Jess Pomerleau led the Eagles with three hits (one RBI), while Dore had two hits and her one run driven in. All but two players that got into the lineup had at least one hit each. Danielle Masterson (12-1) was great in the circle once again allowing no runs on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts in the complete game shutout. Addy Boyce (3-7) took the loss for Thomas College giving up six runs (two earned) on 10 hits with one walk and one strikeout in 5.0 innings.

Game 2- Husson got an RBI from five different players, and cruised to the sweep with a 6-1 victory. Two sacrifices in the second inning was enough for the Eagles, as Tatyanna Biamby lifted an RBI flyout to centerfield and Kiara McLeod had an RBI groundout to make it 2-0. Dore also hit a solo homerun in the third the win. Ana Lang (15-3) dominated in the circle allowing one run on three hits with 11 strikeouts in another complete game effort. Husson didn’t issue a walk in the 14 innings on the afternoon. Jennie Whitten (2-7) suffered the pitching loss giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts also going the full 7.0 innings. Whitten provided the only Thomas scoring in the two games with an RBI groundout in the seventh. The Terriers drop to 7-19 and 5-5 in the North Atlantic Conference.

Husson is now 24-4 and 10-0 in the conference. The Eagles play three doubleheaders this coming week in non-conference action- at Bowdoin (Tuesday), at Bates (Thursday), before hosting the University of New England on Saturday. The regular season finales are also home next Sunday in NAC play against the University of Maine-Presque Isle.
