In a baseball game that ended up being almost two, the Dexter/Piscataquis Tigers walked off the Orono Red Riots 6-5 in 13 innings in a contest played at Dexter on Friday.
The Red Riots had taken a 4-0 lead on a two-run first inning homerun by Jack Brewer, and a two-run single in the fourth by Zach Ryder. The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the last of the fourth on a Kody Kimball RBI groundout, and a fielders choice RBI by Willis Rienhardt in the sixth. They would extend the game and would send it to extras by scoring twice in the seventh on an error and then a RBI groundout by Caleb Bowman. Noah Schaff gave Orono the lead back with a RBI single in the top of the 10th, but Dexter had the answer again as a one out double by Reinhardt and a two out error to score a run in the last half kept the contest going. The Red Riots had a great chance in the top of the 13th with two runners in scoring position with one out, but Ryder struckout looking and Cooper Brown grounded out to the pitcher Noah Kain. The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the bottom half. With Chase Lander batting and the pitcher working from the windup, Gaige Tracy would get a big lead at third and would steal home on a low pitch to end it in walk-off fashion.
Kain and Reinhardt each had two hits for Dexter/Piscataquis, as they took advantage of four errors by their opponent. Gaige Tracy scored two runs. Brady Gaw reached base five times with four walks and a hit, while also stealing four bases. Kain also got the pitching victory in relief of Will Simpson, who had gone the first 7.0 innings. Kain went 6.0 allowing one run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. The #8 Tigers end the regular season at 10-6 and will host #9 Fort Kent in a preliminary playoff matchup on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Ryder pitched the 13th inning and suffered the pitching loss in defeat for Orono. Calum Bryant went the first 5.0 innings giving up one run on one hit with four walks and six strikeouts, while Shaff also fired 7.0 innings and was charged with two earned runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Kason Bagley and Brewer both had two hits and scored two runs, while Brewer had two RBI with his homerun. Ryder also knocked in two. The #7 Red Riots finish 8-8 and will host #10 Calais in the prelims on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
