The #20 Husson softball team last played a game in Florida on March 13th. The Eagles returned to the field in the Pine Tree State on Tuesday by playing a non-conference doubleheader at Bates College in Lewiston.
Game 1- Five different Husson players helped contribute as the Eagles won 5-1. Morgan Tainter had a RBI sacrifice fly, Tayler Watterson stole home, Lydia Rice (Winthrop) had a RBI double, Camryn King (Nokomis) had an infield RBI single, and Jetta Shook (Bucksport) chipped in a single that also scored a run as part of the victory. Ana Lang (Searsport) was good in the circle once again firing a complete game allowing one run (none earned) on seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. Her record goes to 7-1 while her ERA dips to 0.47.
Game 2- Bates bolted out quickly to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, and then scored six in the fourth as they salvaged the split by mercy in five innings 10-1. Maya Lee (two hits, three RBI), Isabel Bettencourt (two RBI), and Delaney Rankin (two-run homerun) led the Bobcats at the plate. Rankin also got the pitching win only allowing the one run and two hits in 5.0 innings. Bates is now 9-12. Rice provided the only Husson run with a solo homer and Sierra Yates (4-1) was tagged with the loss in the circle. They had their six game win streak snapped in the defeat, falling to 14-2. The Eagles will play another non-conference doubleheader at #19 Colby on Thursday, and then will finally open their home and North Atlantic Conference schedule on Saturday and Sunday with doubleheaders against Vermont State University Johnson and VSU Lyndon respectively at O’Keefe Field in Bangor.
