The Boston Bruins spoiled a good opportunity to take away home ice on Sunday night, as the Buffalo Sabres scored four times in the third period to earn a 4-3 come from behind win in Game 1 of an Eastern Conference First Round Series at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo.
Boston had taken a 2-0 lead on a first period goal at 10:52 from Morgan Geekie, and one by Elias Lindholm 1:08 into the third. Buffalo then scored the next three goals including the game winner in a span of 4:34. Tage Thompson had the first two to tie it at 12:02 and 15:44 followed by the winner from Mattias Samuelsson at 16:36. Alex Tuch finished the scoring for his team with an empty netter at 18:48. The Bruins got one back from David Pastrnak on the powerplay and extra attacker with eight seconds left, but it was too late as Buffalo earned the comeback victory. Jeremy Swayman made 34 saves in the loss. The Sabres, who hadn’t made the playoffs an NHL record 14 straight seasons (since 2010-11), will also host Game 2 of the best of seven on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
