The Monks of Saint Joseph’s College got a walk-off sacrifice flyout by Luke Doughty (York) in the 11th inning on Wednesday in knocking off the University of Southern Maine 8-7 in a non-conference baseball game played in Standish.
Kyle Douin (Cony) and Caleb Vacchiano (Sacopee) led the Huskies with three hits and two RBI each. Vacchiano hit his fourth homerun of the season. Sam Calder (Monmouth) dropped to 1-1 as he suffered the pitching loss in relief. USM falls to 22-7.
Nick Villano led the Monks with two hits and three RBI. Nic Frink (Thornton) had three hits, while Theo Masella and Connor Finn contributed two each. Villano and Michael Richards homered in the win. Joey Tavares (1-0) picked up the pitching victory and was very solid in relief going 5.0 innings giving up no runs on just one hit with three walks and two strikeouts. St. Joe’s improves to 28-10 on the year.
