The University of Maine softball team was swept by Bryant University in an America East doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Conaty Park in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
Keira Inman provided all the offense for the Black Bears in the 11-4 defeat in game one. Inman had a sacrifice fly for a RBI in the third inning and hit a three-run homer in the fifth. The Bulldogs had already but put it away by scoring nine times in the bottom of the first. Hannah Hipwell (3-6) was tagged with the loss in the circle allowing six runs (only one earned) on one hit with three walks in 1/3 of an inning. Maine fell 4-3 in game two. In a tie game, Alissa West had a RBI triple and also scored on a wild pitch that made up the final difference in the fifth inning. Neve Adams had two hits for the Black Bears. They had a chance in the ninth pulling when they pulled within one on a wild pitch scoring Kennedy Burns and had the bases loaded with one out, but Adams and Inman both struckout swinging to end it. Alysen Reith (6-13) took the pitching loss as she gave up four runs on seven hits with four walks and nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Maine falls to 13-30 and 6-10 in America East. First place Bryant is now 18-21 and 15-4. The teams finish the three game series on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
