Thomas softball rallies past UMPI to win their opening game at the NAC Tournament

MacKenzie Toner (Erskine) provided a game winning RBI single in the fifth inning on Thursday afternoon, as Thomas softball rallied past the University of UMaine-Presque Isle 10-8 at the North Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament at O’Keefe Field in Bangor.

The #6 Owls, who had won their first playoff game earlier in the day in extra innings over SUNY Cobleskill, got out to a 7-3 lead after three innings on the #2 Terriers. But Thomas scored three times in the fourth and fifth, with the deciding run coming home on the Toner single. Zoe Stewart led UMPI with two hits, four RBI including a three-run homerun, and three runs scored. Abby Doughty added two hits and two RBI. The Owls (16-19) will play an elimination game on Friday at 11 a.m. against SUNY Delhi. Toner had a total of four hits for Thomas and two knocked in, while Maeve Hickok contributed three RBI. The Terriers (20-18) will play top seed Husson on Friday at 1 p.m.
