BANGOR- Husson softball made it 60 straight wins vs league opponents on Friday afternoon, rallying past Thomas College 7-3 in the North Atlantic Conference Tournament at O’Keefe Field. The top seeded Eagles advance to yet another NAC Championship Series on Saturday afternoon, and it’ll be a rematch with the Terriers.
Thomas had taken a 3-1 lead after three innings on a two-run homerun by Megan Oberholzer and a RBI double by Maddy Morris (Skowhegan). Husson would score the final six runs of the game. Morgan Tainter tied it with a two-run double the fourth, and a Terriers error allowed Allie Casavant to cross the plate to give the hosts the lead for good at 4-3 in the fifth. Another error would score Sophia Lynch (Bangor) in the sixth inning, while Casavant provided a RBI sacrifice fly and Braelynn Wilcox (Hermon) had a RBI groundout to end the scoring on the afternoon.
Addy Boyce (MDI) took the defeat in the circle for Thomas, dropping to 1-2 on the season allowing three earned runs on four hits with seven walks and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings. The #2 seeded Terriers (21-19) kept their season alive to move onto Saturday by defeating SUNY Delhi 9-8 in nine innings in the last elimination game later on Friday evening. Lynch had two hits, while Tainter and Casavant drove in two runs each for #19 nationally ranked Husson (35-4). Ana Lang (Searsport) upped her record to 22-3, as she fired a complete game giving up three runs on three hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts. The Eagles and Terriers meet in the NAC Championship Series beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday. Thomas would need to beat Husson twice to dethrone the seven time defending league champions. The Eagles are currently on a 14-game win streak, and hasn’t lost a NAC game in over four years since Thomas beat them on April 23, 2022.
