Bowdoin men’s lacrosse gets past Stevens in NCAA Third Round game, advances to a national quarterfinal for the fourth time in five years

Bowdoin men’s lacrosse scored three times in the final 6:40 of the fourth quarter on Sunday afternoon, with two of them coming from Sam Raye-Steiner to defeat Stevens Institute of Technology (New Jersey) 17-14 in the third round of the NCAA Tournament at Whittier Field in Brunswick. The Polar Bears (18-1) now advance to a national quarterfinal to take on Hope College next Friday at 4 p.m. that they will also host in Brunswick.

It was nip and tuck on Sunday for Bowdoin and Stevens. The Polar Bears had a four goal lead on three different occasions, before the Ducks (18-3) rallied back to tie it 12-12 after three quarters. Raye-Steiner buried the game winner with 6:40 left, adding another one almost two minutes later, while Casey Ryan added an insurance goal with 4:35 left to play. Alec Delgado made 15 saves in net in the win, in helping to send his team to the national quarterfinals for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Bowdoin and Hope College (Michigan) square off on Friday at 4 p.m. The Flying Dutchmen are 20-0 and play out of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), and have outscored their opponents 325-134 this season that included a close third round victory over Bates in Lewiston on Saturday 14-12.
