Bucksport got off to a big lead early, and would eventually pull away from Central on Tuesday evening 11-3 in the Class C North Softball Regional Championship game played at Coffin Field in Brewer.
The Golden Bucks scored six times in their first at bat in the bottom of the first inning for an early 6-0 advantage. Addison Harvey smacked a two-run double. The Red Devils got two back in the top of the second on a RBI double from Gabrielle Dickinson and a RBI sacrifice fly from Kourtney Kenneson. They would slice it to 6-3 in the fourth on a Brooke Lundstrom RBI single. Bucksport loaded the bases in the bottom half, and Emma Clement came up huge with a three-run double to left for some breathing room at 9-3 and helping to clinch a fourth straight regional title. They ended the scoring in the sixth inning on a RBI sacrifice fly by Avery Robshaw and an error on Central pitcher Aili Spack that allowed another runner to come across the plate.
Clement drove in three runs to lead Bucksport, while Alivia Shute and Harvey had two RBI each. Layken Varnum scored three runs, while both Lexi Raymond and Marina Keene came across to score twice. Keene pitched a complete game in the circle to pick up the win allowing three runs on eight hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Dickinson had three hits and one RBI for Central, while Madison Moody had two hits and scored two runs. Spack also went the distance in taking the pitching loss giving up 11 runs (seven earned) with eight walks and five strikeouts. The Red Devils end their season with a record of 15-4. Bucksport (18-1), winners of 18 straight games, go for their second straight state title on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they take on South Champion Dirigo at Coffin Field in Brewer.
