Graedon King pitched seven strong innings and Eric Heistrom walked to send home the winning run to give Fort Fairfield the walk-off 2-1 win over Bangor Christian in the Class D North baseball championship game on Tuesday night at UMaine.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Gaige Farrar singled to score Jack Kowalski. The Tigers evened the score in the bottom of the sixth inning when Cayden Ala walked, stole second, advanced to third on a grounder, and came into score on a sacrifice fly from King.
The Patriots loaded the bases in the top of the eighth inning, but Ala got Sam Cormier to pop out on a 3-2 pitch to end the inning. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Tigers got an infield single from Lucas Cormier, a bunt single from Ala, and after a sacrifice bunt King was intentionally walked. Jack Kowalski reached his pitch limit with two outs in the eighth inning and the bases loaded. Helstrom walked that sent Ala home and give the Tigers the walk-off championship.
