The Hammond Lumber Post 213 Riverhawks White (Hampden) won the State of Maine Junior Legion Baseball Championship on Tuesday evening with a 4-1 victory over the Trenton Acadians on Ronald J. St. Pierre Field at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.
The Riverhawks needed to be beaten in the first game to force a winner take all second game, but got all they needed in the bottom of the first inning. An error and then a RBI single by Joey Newell brought in two runs in their first at bat. Collin Mehrhoff pitched solidly to get the win. He did walk six, but only allowed one run on five hits and struckout five over six innings. Mehrhoff also singled in his teams third run. Blaze Morris picked up the save. Gaige Farrar had three hits. Noah White, Newell, and Mehrhoff each had two hits and one RBI. Michael Carroll scored twice. Wyatt Young reached base twice with one hit, one walk, and one RBI for Trenton. Coleman Welch suffered the pitching loss giving up four runs (two earned) on eight hits with five walks and three strikeouts in four innings. The Acadians end their summer with a record of 16-5. Hammond Lumber Post 213 (18-1) advances to the Northeast Regional at Gill Stadium in Mancester, New Hampshire. The double elimination tournament begins this Friday and ends on Sunday.
