The Hammond Lumber Post 213 Riverhawks (White) Junior Legion team had their hopes of a Northeast Regional Baseball Championship come to an end on Saturday evening, as Braintree Post 86 scored three times in the first inning and never looked back in a 6-2 win at Gill Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Gaige Farrar had two hits and one RBI in the loss for the Riverhawks (19-2), while Layton Shaw knocked in his teams other run. Farrar also suffered the pitching defeat allowing three runs in just 1/3 of an inning. Hammond Lumber will finish their appearance in the regional on Sunday when they take on Hilton-Hiscock-Fishbaugh Post 788 (NY state champ) in a third place game at 11 a.m. Nick Mazzini and Rocco Moscaritolo each had two RBI for Braintree Post 86 (20-8). The Massachusetts state runner-up will now face Massachusetts state champ Franklin-Edward L. Grant Post 75 (22-4) in the championship game on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
