Junior Aja Turner scored two second half goals on Thursday night, as the Maine women’s soccer team rallied past Army 2-1 in non-conference action at the New Balance Soccer Complex in Orono.
The Black Knights (2-5) tallied early just over 90 seconds into the contest, as Sabrina Rogers found the back of the net on a free kick. The Black Bears kept pushing and finally found the equalizer when Turner buried a rebound of a Hannah Wehmeyer shot in the 66th minute. It was the first career goal for Turner. She buried another rebound of a Wehmeyer shot in the 75th minute for the game winner. Elena Barenberg (four saves) made a huge stop in the 88th minute to preserve the lead and the victory. Maine (2-3-1) travels to Rhode Island next Thursday night at 6 p.m. to take on the Providence College Friars.
