Husson field hockey dropped a tough one in their home opener on Saturday evening, as Zoey Lailer (Bonny Eagle) buried two goals including the overtime game winner to lead Saint Joseph’s College of Maine to a 2-1 come from behind victory at the Winkin Complex in Bangor.
Faith Tillotson (Thornton) snapped a scoreless tie with a goal almost seven minutes into the fourth quarter for Husson for a 1-0 lead. Lauren Millett (Oxford Hills) registered an assist. The Eagles had held the Monks without a single shot on goal through the first three periods, before Lailer evened the match back up about 4:30 after the Tillotson marker off an assist from Dasia Alberico (Skowhegan). She would then collect a rebound and deposited it into the back of the cage 3:58 into the extra session to win it for St. Joe’s (2-2). Kimberley McLaughlin (Lewiston) made five saves in net for the Monks. Husson (0-4) will play USM in Gorham in their next game on Friday.
