The University of Maine women’s soccer and field hockey teams both picked up road non-conference wins on Sunday afternoon.
In Boston- Eloise Penty scored 9:24 into overtime to lift Maine field hockey to a 3-2 win over Boston University. Martha Barratt and Gabrielle Sousa scored the other goals for the Black Bears, with Barratt also assisting on the Penty marker in the extra period. Floor Dijkhuizen and Emily Chisholm also picked up one assist each. Boston University (2-4) outshot Maine 15-9 (11-6 on goal), and the Terriers also had a 8-4 advantage in penalty corners. Annabel Halkes made nine saves in the cage for the Black Bears (3-3), who will return home to host Dartmouth next Sunday at 2 p.m.
At Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium in Worcester, Massachusetts- UConn transfer Isabella Meadows notched her third goal of the season not even two minutes into the match in leading Maine women’s soccer past Holy Cross 1-0. Sandrine Brault assisted on the game winner with a beautiful cross that was headed in by Meadows. Elena Barenberg made five saves to register the shutout in net. The Black Bears are now 3-3-2 and will open up conference play next Sunday at noon when they host Albany in Orono.
