Maine women’s soccer fell for the first time this season in America East play and had their six game unbeaten streak snapped, as Vermont picked up a 2-1 win at Virtue Field in Burlington on Sunday afternoon.
Madeline Gardner scored in the 27th minute for the Catamounts to break the deadlock, before Eleni Stowell put in her fifth of the season in the 63rd minute that ended being the game winner. The lone Black Bears goal went into the net off a head of a Vermont defender in front of the net in the 72nd minute, but Maine was unable to find an equalizing tally. Sophia Kling made three saves for the Catamounts in goal, as they improved to 4-4-4 overall (2-0-1 in America East). Elena Barenberg suffered the loss for the Black Bears. Maine is now 4-4-2 (1-1-1 in the conference) and will host NJIT in Orono next Sunday at 12 p.m.
