December 11, 2018

The Boston Bruins got into a 2-0 hole after the first period on Tuesday night, before rallying to score four second period goals and holding off the Arizona Coyotes 4-3 at TD Garden for their third consecutive win.

Arizona (13-14-2) built the lead with a pair of goals just 40 seconds apart in the opening stanza. Nick Schmaltz on the powerplay at 12:22, and then Nick Cousins at 13:02 had the Coyotes off and running at 2-0.

A span of 4:50 in the second period is all Boston would need to take a two goal lead with a four goal outburst. Danton Heinen at 8:40 and David Pastrnak at 9:13 made it 2-2, before Brad Marchand scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season at 11:31 and 13:30 making it 4-2 in favor of the hosts. Michael Bunting, making his NHL debut, scored an unassisted goal at the 15:00 mark to pull Arizona within a goal. Boston (17-10-4) would hold on in the third period for the win, including killing off a Coyotes powerplay. Arizona pulled the goalie for an extra attacker with 1:25 left, but couldn’t come up with the equalizer.

Tuuka Rask made 30 saves in the win, while Darcy Kuemper made 22 stops in the loss. Boston was 0-3 on the powerplay, while Arizona was 1-2. The top line for the Bruins produced nine points on the night, with Marchand (2 goals, 1 assist), Pastrnak (1 goal, 2 assists), and David Kreijci (3 assists). Boston will be in Pittsburgh Friday night at 7 pm to battle the Penguins.
