Charlie Coyle and David Krejci both scored late third period goals Tuesday night, and Jaroslav Halak made 24 saves as the Boston Bruins won their eighth straight game with a 2-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at TD Garden in Boston.
The teams battled through a scoreless 40 minutes as both goaltenders were up to the test. Carolina netminder James Reimer matched Halak and came up with several big saves especially in the second period. Boston (20-3-5) broke through late to extend the win streak. Brad Marchand tracked down a loose puck in the left corner of the Hurricanes zone, and backhanded a feed out front to Coyle who re-directed it in to the right of Reimer at 15:55. Just 1:08 later, David Pastrnak got one out to the point for Charlie McAvoy who fired a shot through traffic that was deflected in by Krejci. The goal was the 200th of Krejcis career.
Danton Heinen, Pastrnak, Marchand, and McAvoy all had assists for the Bruins who also extend their points streak to 12 straight games (9-0-3). Both teams were 0-2 on the powerplay. Reimer made 32 saves in the loss for Carolina (16-11-1). Boston will host Chicago on Thursday night.
