Freshman center Bailey Donovan continued her early season dominance on Friday night with 20 points to lead the Husson Eagles to a 90-51 North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball win over UMaine-Presque Isle at Newman Gymnasium in Bangor.
UMPI (2-9, 0-3 NAC) took an early lead scoring the first five points and led 10-4, before Husson finally took their first lead and the lead for good when Megan Peach knocked down a jump shot with 1:28 left in the first. The Eagles built a nine point halftime lead before exploding in the third quarter outscoring the Owls 31-11 to put the game away. The 39 point difference was the largest of the game, and UMPI went cold after a good shooting first quarter ending up just 26% from the floor. Husson improves to 5-7, 3-0.
Donovan added six rebounds to her team high point total for the Eagles, shooting 7-8 from the field and 6-8 from the foul line. Sydney Allen added 10 points and five rebounds, while Emma Alley also had 10 and added three rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Hunter Mercier had 20 points and four rebounds for the Owls. Sarah Musselman also added 10 points. The two teams play again at Newman Gym Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
