CORINTH- Basketball is a game of runs. Central used four separate runs to defeat Hodgdon 48-35 in a Class C girls basketball preliminary round game on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils went on an 8-0 run after Hodgdon went ahead 2-0. Central took a 13-6 lead at the end of the first quarter as Tayla Caruso converted a layup after a steal to beat the buzzer.

Hodgdon scored the first four points of the second quarter. The Red Devils followed that with a 7-0 run to take a 20-10 lead. The Red Devils held a 22-14 halftime lead behind eight points from Abi Allen.
The Hawks went on a run of their own to even the score at 24 early in the third quarter. Ali Shaw made a three pointer with 2:40 left in the quarter to give Central a lead (27-24) they wouldn’t give back. That started an 8-0 Red Devils run that extended into the fourth quarter. Central went on another 9-0 run to put the game away.
Emilee Cohen scored 10 of her game high 16 points in the fourth quarter. Cohen went 8-10 from the free throw line down the stretch. Cohen also had five rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. Allen recorded 12 points, four steals, and three assists. Shaw and Erica Noonan put in five points each. Rylee Speed had three points and seven rebounds. Caruso and Gabrielle Poulin chipped in with two points each. Central (15-4) will play top seeded Stearns in a Class C quarterfinal game on Tuesday, February 18th at 8:30 PM.
Sadie Thompson led the Hawks with nine points (3 three pointers). Autumn Genzel recorded eight points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Lauren McGillicuddy made 2 three pointers for six points. Marissa Dow and Kylie Mooers each scored four points each. Emma Drew and Sabra Scott each scored two points. Scott also had seven rebounds and two assists. Hodgdon ends the season with a record of 13-6.
