February 10, 2020

Jordan Harris scored a powerplay goal in the second overtime on Monday night to lead the Northeastern Huskies to a 5-4 win over the Boston University Terriers in the 68th Annual Beanpot Championship game at TD Garden in Boston. For the first time in school history, the Huskies win their third straight Beanpot Title.

Boston University (10-10-7) started this one strong as Jake Wise scored at 2:49 of the first, and then Trevor Zegras made it 2-0 with a powerplay goal at 7:50. Northeastern looked like it may run away with things in the second period scoring four unanswered goals. Tyler Madden got them on the board at 2:53, followed by a Aidan McDonough marker to tie it just 2:58 later to make it 2-2. Zach Solow gave the Huskies the lead on the powerplay at 9:42. Grant Jozefek extended it to 4-2 with another powerplay goal 1:41 later, ending the night in net for BU starting goalie Ashton Abel as he was replaced by Sam Tucker.

Boston University fought back though in the third period. David Farrance cut it to 4-3 on the powerplay at 1:56. The score remained the same until the waining moments of regulation time. The Terriers pulled Tucker for an extra attacker with 1:32 left, and in a wild scramble near the Northeastern net Zegras poked home a loose rebound with just 1.1 seconds left on the clock to send it to overtime. Harris got the winner on the powerplay in the second overtime at 14:33 after a controversial penalty call against the Terriers Patrick Harper. Harris let a shot go from just inside the blue line that beat a screened Tucker five hole to end it.

Craig Pantano made 40 saves in the win for Northeastern (16-8-2). McDonough had a goal and three assists, while Julian Kislin added three assists for the Huskies. Abel made 10 saves and allowed four goals before being pulled in the second period in the loss for Boston University. Tucker made 18 saves in relief. Farrance had a goal and two assists to lead the Terriers. Northeastern went 3-8 on the powerplay, while BU was 2-3. Next up Northeastern plays a home and home series with UMass-Lowell this weekend, while BU will do the same against New Hampshire.
