Maine softball splits with CCSU, breaking five game losing streak

The Maine softball team continued non-conference play on Saturday afternoon, traveling to take on Central Connecticut State for a pair of games in New Britain, Connecticut.

In game one, the Black Bears ended their five game losing streak by getting an RBI each from four different players and holding on for a 4-2 win. Kya Enos, Grace McGouldrick, and Kelby Drews had two hits a piece in the win. Drews hit a solo homerun and Keely Clark added a two run single. Kyleigh O’Donnell (2-1) got the win in the circle going the full 7.0 innings allowing two runs on seven hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.

In game two, Maine broke out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first but CCSU would rally and take an 8-7 win to split the twinbill. Izzy Nieblas had two hits and five RBI to lead the Black Bears with a two run single, a two run homer, and a sacrifice fly. McGouldrick also had two hits for the second straight game. Meg Dugas won the game for the Blue Devils with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. Clark had a pinch hit two out single in the top of the seventh, but was thrown out trying to extend it to a double that ended the game. Caitlyn Fallon (0-4) took the pitching loss allowing one unearned run on one hit in 1.2 innings. Maine is now 2-8, CCSU is 5-4. The teams meet for a scheduled single game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
