Sea Dogs power past the Fighting Phils’, return home riding 13 game win streak

Reading, PA- The Portland Sea Dogs hit four homeruns, including a grand slam from Hudson Potts on Sunday afternoon emphatically sweeping a six game series with a 15-4 win over the Reading Fightin’ Phillies at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Portland (40-23) took control early as Jeisson Rosario hit a first inning solo homerun, and Tyreque Reed singled in another run for a quick 2-0 lead. Devlin Granberg hit a second inning two-run homerun, while Jhonny Pereda had an RBI groundout and Rosario knocked in his second run with an RBI single to make it 6-0 in the third. After Reading (26-40) got on the scoreboard on a two-run homer from Luke Miller in the fourth inning, the Sea Dogs broke it open with seven more in the fifth. Granberg drove in two with a single, Potts took one over the fence in left center with the bases loaded, and Ryan Fitzgerald drove in another with a double to make it 13-2. Pedro Castellanos added a solo homerun in the eighth. The win is the 13th consecutive for Portland, who entered the day in a first place tie atop the Northern Division of the Northeast League.

Josh Winckowski (5-1) picked up the win for Portland on the mound allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Granberg led the offensive onslaught with four hits and four RBI. Reed, Potts, and Castellanos all had three hits a piece with Potts driving in five. Rosario and Hernandez each had two hits, as the ‘Dogs had 19 hits on the day. Adam Leverett (1-2) took the loss for Reading allowing four runs on five hits in 2.0 innings. Miller, Grenny Cumana, Arquimedes Gamboa, and Bryson Stott each had two hits a piece. The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field to open up a 12 game homestand against the Harrisburg Senators and New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Chris Sale is expected to be the opener in a rehab start on Tuesday night in game one against Harrisburg.
