BANGOR- The Hodgdon Hawks hit 10 three-pointers on Tuesday evening, taking down the Central Red Devils 53-32 in a Class C North girls quarterfinal played at the Cross Insurance Center.
After four lead changes early on, Hodgdon took the lead for good when Aleyah Matheson knocked in a three-pointer at 11-9. The Hawks led 17-12 after the opening eight minutes. Marissa Dow and Sadie Thompson both buried shots from behind the arc early in the second as Hodgdon increased their lead to 27-12 with a 10-0 run, and led 29-19 at the halftime break. A 1-2 effort from the line and also a jumper by Izzy Allen pulled Central within 29-22 early in the third quarter, but that is as close as they’d get. The Hawks were just too much as Dow added nine more points and freshman standout Anna Oliver added 10 in the final 16 minutes, as Hodgdon will move into a Friday semifinal.
Oliver finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the win for #5 seed Hodgdon (16-3). Dow had 17 points (five 3-pointers). The Hawks went 3-6 from the free throw line. Central was led by Allen who had 18 points and six rebounds. Abigail Young added six points and 10 rebounds. The Red Devils end their season at 16-4. Central was 8-19 from the line, but did outrebound Hodgdon 26-19.
