After a grueling 21 game trip that took the Maine softball team to Georgia, Virginia, and Utah the Black Bears came back to the East Coast over the weekend to play more non-conference games in a round robin at Quinnipiac University against the host Bobcats and the Hartford Hawks on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, Maine broke a 10 game losing streak with a 9-2 win over Hartford. Kelby Drews, Jasmine Gray, Keely Clark, and Mariah Pearson had two RBI each. Emily Reid (1-4) got the pitching win allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in the complete game effort. Drews and Clark had three RBI in the second game as the Black Bears beat Quinnipiac 8-4 in a rain shortened five and a half inning contest. Caitlyn Fallon (2-0) won in relief of starter Gabbie Siciliano.
On Sunday, Quinnipiac rallied past Maine with a three run sixth inning for a 3-2 victory. Gray had two hits for the Bears, and Alexandria Gruitch (0-11) suffered the pitching loss. In the second game Maine had a lead of 4-2 after falling behind 2-0 early, but the Hawks rallied with two in the sixth and two in the seventh inning to pick up the 6-4 win. Gabby Papushka had three hits and Gray added two hits and two RBI. Reid (1-5) suffered the defeat in the circle allowing three earned runs on three hits in 3.0 innings.
