The Bangor Babes bounced back after their season opening loss to Augusta last Sunday to pick up their first Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League victory of the season 6-3 over Waterville at the Winkin Complex in Bangor Thursday evening.
In a 2-2 game in the fifth inning, the Babes (1-1) scored twice to take the lead back for good in capturing their first win of 2025. Hayden Hogan hit into a fielders choice that went for a RBI, and then Brendan Mahaney followed with a RBI single for a 4-2 advantage. TJ Llerena and Noah Simpson each had two hits for Bangor. Llerena also scored two runs. Noah Hurd was once again solid on the mound for a second straight game, picking up the win by tossing two shutout innings allowing two hits and had one strikeout. Austin Buck, Emmit Hatch, and Allen Merrifield had two hits a piece for the Woodworkers (0-1). Adam Gwarjanski took the pitching loss for Waterville working 1.0 inning and giving up two runs.
The Babes remain at home and will take on the South Portland Puffins on Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. (two 7-inning games). It is $1 hot dog day at the Winkin Complex, so get your tickets by visiting BangorBabes.com.
