Kaitlyn Cookson had three hits and three RBI on Friday morning, as the Dexter softball team wrapped up the regular season with an 8-3 win over Orono in a game played in Dexter.
The Tigers scored three runs in the fifth to snap a 1-1 tie on a bases loaded walk by Kayleigh Dunton and a two-run single by Cookson. The Red Riots got back within 4-3 in the top of the sixth on a two-run double by Andrea Crocker. The hosts put it away though in the bottom half with a four spot on a two-run single by Kallie Stone, followed by a RBI triple and RBI double from Dunton and Cookson respectively. Stone and Dunton both finished with two RBI each, while Desiree Adams scored twice. Stone pitched a complete game in the circle allowing three runs on eight hits with five walks and six strikeouts. #8 Dexter (10-6) will host #9 Houlton in a prelim playoff on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Crocker had two hits and two RBI for Orono, while Jillian Severance added two hits that included a solo homerun. Severance took the loss in the circle giving up eight runs (four earned) on seven hits with five walks and seven strikeouts. #5 Orono (9-7) will travel to #4 Washington Academy for a quarterfinal game next Wednesday.
