Fairfield University jumped out to a 24-9 lead after one quarter on Friday night, and then used a 9-0 run in the third period to help pull away from Maine 74-51 in a non-conference women’s basketball game played at Leo D. Mahoney Arena in Fairfield, Connecticut.

After the tough start, Maine was able to pull within 27-22 almost halfway through the second quarter on two free throws from Adrianna Smith. The Black Bears though, who average 12 turnovers per game, committed 18 of them in the first half as Fairfield led 33-24 at the break. The Stags would hit 5-8 from the three-point arc in the third quarter and their 9-0 run stretched their lead out to 20 to put it away.

The Stags, out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, improve to 6-3.
