The hottest team in the ECHL continued their winning ways over the weekend, as the Maine Mariners breezed to a perfect 3-0 sweep with two wins over Worcester and a shutout victory over Reading on Sunday afternoon.
After 6-2 and 4-1 wins on Friday and Saturday in a home and home with the Railers, the Mariners recorded a 4-0 blanking of the Royals on Sunday at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. Luke Cavallin stopped all 31 shots for his third shutout of the season in net, while Sebastian Vidmar had the eventual game winning goal in the first period. Maine (36-16-6-2) is now 15-1-1 in their last 17 games and their magic number to clinch a playoff spot is down to seven. For the first time in team history, they will face the Greensboro Gargoyles at home this coming Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
