Maine baseball rallied from a four run deficit and scored five times in the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon to defeat UMass-Lowell 10-6 in the rubber match of a three game series at LeLacheur Field in Lowell, Massachusetts.
The Black Bears cut into the 6-2 deficit when Rex Hauser singled in a run in the sixth inning, and Shane Andrus slapped a two-run single in the seventh to make it 6-5. Troy Carpenter tied it with a double in the ninth, followed by a two-run single by Juju Stevens that ended up as the game winner. Scott Donahue and Sean O’Leary had two RBI each for the Riverhawks, as Lowell drops to 9-15 and 2-4 in America East. Stevens led Maine with three hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Carpenter, Andrus, and Hunter St. Denis had two hits a piece. Brody Rasmussen contributed three RBI. Pierce Friedman picked up the pitching win in relief of Vaun Larisa. Friedman allowed no runs on just one hit with two walks and four strikeouts over 4.0 innings. The Black Bears improve to 5-20 overall and 3-3 in conference play. They will play at Boston College in non-conference action at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, before they are scheduled to play at home for the first time this season when they open a three game league series in Orono against Bryant University on Thursday at 4 p.m.
