Husson baseball extends win streak to six, finishes off conference sweep of Lesley

The Husson baseball team finished off their four game home North Atlantic Conference series with a seven inning doubleheader against Lesley University with both contests going to extra innings at the Winkin Complex in Bangor on Saturday.

Game 1- The Eagles had to go three extra frames, eventually winning it in walk-off fashion 10-9 in the bottom of the 10th when Matt Holmes (Bangor) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Lynx were led by Gerlys Martinez who had four hits and five RBI in the loss. Holmes had three hits and two RBI (including a solo homerun), Cam Rendell added two hits and four RBI (including a two-run inside the park homer), and Liam Kelley contributed two hits and two RBI for Husson. Noah Hurd (Mt. View) gave up four hits but no runs with one walk and two strikeouts 3.0 innings of relief on the mound to get his first victory of the season (1-0).

Game 2- The Eagles rallied twice from a deficit, and then won it on another walk-off this time on a RBI single by Henry Lausier (Thornton) in the eighth inning 6-5 to sweep the doubleheader. Husson trailed 4-1 early, but came back to tie it in the fourth when Yates Emerson (Bangor) scored on a wild pitch and Hunter Curtis (Ellsworth) hit a single to left to score a run. After falling behind 5-4, the hosts sent it to extras in their last at bat on a sacrifice RBI flyout by Trevor Poisson. Andres Moreno and Anthony Nyhuis led Lesley University with two RBI each. The Lynx fall to 7-14 and 4-8 in the North Atlantic Conference. Holmes continued his superb season with three more hits and one RBI for the Eagles. Lausier, Poisson, and Colin Marshall each had two hits. Poisson drove in two. Ryan Garner (1-0) picked up the pitching victory not allowing any runs or hits in 2.2 innings. Jack Karlonas (Gorham) started and gave up four runs in 2.0 innings. Blake Littlefield (Brewer) also pitched in relief giving up one run (none earned) with four walks and five strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Husson is now winners of six straight games improving to 8-9 and 6-2 in conference play. They will play non-conference contests at Bowdoin and Bates on Tuesday and Wednesday.
