The Maine softball team would rally for a walk-off win in game two on Saturday afternoon, salvaging a split of a doubleheader in America East action with Binghamton at the Labat Softball Complex in Orono.
Game 1- Binghamton 8, Maine 6: Keira Inman hit a first inning grandslam to stake the Black Bears to an early 4-0 lead, but the Bearcats would score three in the third, one in the fourth, and four more in the fifth to take the victory. The guests used the long ball to rally for the win as Elisa Allen hit a three-run homerun in the third, and then hit a two-run shot in the fifth to give her team the lead for good. Reese Izenstark also hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Kaelyn Larkin put one over the fence in the last half of the fifth for Maine, as all the runs in the contest except for one were scored by the homerun ball. Rachel Carey had three hits for Binghamton, while Allen drove in five. Larkin had two hits, two RBI, scored two runs, and walked twice for Maine. Neve Adams added two hits. Ava Zettlemoyer (3-7) lost in relief in the circle after she was charged with four runs on five hits in 1.1 innings.
Game 2- Maine 4, Binghamton 3: Maggie Helms reached on an error that allowed Annika Shearer to come across to score the walk-off win for the Black Bears in the seventh inning. The Bearcats led 3-0 thanks to a two-run by Darien McDonough and a RBI double from Emma Lawson in the first. Madison Hand hit a solo homer for Maine in the third, and the hosts then tied it on bases loaded walks from Larkin and Adams in the sixth. Kennedy Burns led off the seventh for the Black Bears and struckout but would reach first on a passed ball. Shearer would come in to pinch run, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hand. Eviana Robles struckout for out number two. Helms then came up to bat and popped it up to the pitcher that looked to be an easy third out, but it was dropped by Delaney Glover for an error allowing Shearer to score from second to end it. Robles had two hits to lead the offense. Alysen Reith (5-12) was credited with the pitching win with 1.0 perfect inning in relief. The record for Binghamton now stands at 13-21 (12-4 in America East), while Maine is now 11-28 (5-8 in the conference). The series finale is now scheduled for a 9 a.m. start on Sunday.
