Maine scored six times in the second inning on Sunday morning, and defeated Binghamton 11-7 in a rain shortened America East softball series finale at the Labat Softball Complex in Orono.
The Bearcats built a 3-0 lead on a infield RBI single by Elisa Allen in the first inning, and a RBI single and RBI double from Rebecca Minnichbach and Rachel Carey respectively in the second. The Black Bear bats exploded in the last half of the second as Francesca Guerrera singled in two, Keira Inman knocked in a run with an infield single, and Madison Hand hit a three-run triple to put her team up for good and help them win the weekend series. Hand had five RBI as she later hit a two-run double in the fifth inning. The game was called in the top of the sixth due to heavy rain. Carey and Allen both had two hits and two RBI in the loss for Binghamton, who falls to 13-22 and 12-5 in America East. Guerrera and Neve Adams had two RBI each for Maine, while Eviana Robles and Madison Pool added two hits each. Pool hit a solo homerun and also scored twice. Kaelyn Larkin scored three runs and Inman crossed the plate twice. Alysen Reith (6-12) picked up the victory in the circle with 3.2 innings of relief. The Black Bears (12-28, 6-8 in the conference) play a three league series at Bryant next weekend beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday. Not including the forfeited wins this season with UMBC, this is the first conference series win for Maine since they took two of three games over Lowell at the end of last April.
