Husson baseball sweeps four games from UMPI, will be the top seed and host the NAC Tournament in Bangor

Husson baseball will enter the North Atlantic Conference Tournament next week on a 10 game winning streak and will host in Bangor after sweeping a four game league series from the University of UMaine-Presque Isle over the weekend.

On Saturday at Presque Isle, the Eagles won 5-1 and 9-6. Colin Marshall had three hits and three RBI in Game 1 including a solo homerun. Avery Lawrence (Deering) improved to 2-4 pitching 5.0 innings with eight strikeouts to get the win. Noah Hurd (Mt. View) also worked 2.0 scoreless frames out of bullpen with 3 K’s. In Game 2, Henry Lausier (Thornton) had the game winning two-run single in the fifth to complete the afternoon sweep. Ryan Wall (1-0) collected the win on the hill in relief giving up one run in 2.2 innings. Ryan Garner got his third save.

On Sunday in Bangor after the doubleheader was moved due to field conditions up North, the Eagles put on an offensive display to win 21-2 and 15-3. Matt Holmes (Bangor) set the tone for the day with a three-run homer in a 10 run first inning in Game 1. Joe Hamelin (Waterville) had three RBI, as did Holmes. Preston Libby, Marshall, Cam Rendell, and Wes Piper (Greely) each contributed two RBI. Max Lukeman (1-0) got the pitching win. Marshall had three hits and four RBI in Game 2, and Hunter Curtis (Ellsworth) hit a homerun. Hamelin continued his big day with three hits and two RBI, while Libby, Rendell, and Lausier had two hits each. Allen Wheaton (John Bapst) pitched 5.0 innings of one run ball to improve his record to 2-2 giving up three hits with no walks and five strikeouts. UMPI finishes up their regular season at 9-26 and 5-19 in the North Atlantic Conference. Husson is now 21-16 and claims the #1 seed for the tourney with a league record of 19-5. The full schedule for the NAC Championship at the Winkin Complex in Bangor is to be announced.
