Husson baseball gets walk-off win in the opening game of the NAC Tournament

The #1 seeded Husson baseball team eeked out a 3-2 walk-off win in the opening game of the North Atlantic Conference Tournament over Vermont State University Lyndon at the Winkin Complex in Bangor on Thursday afternoon.

Both starting pitchers threw the ball extremely well in the game. After the Hornets grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning, the Eagles went ahead in the bottom half on a Colin Marshall RBI single and a bases loaded walk by Liam Kelley. VTSU Lyndon tied it on a RBI groundout in the fifth at 2-2. It remained that way until the bottom of the ninth inning, when Husson loaded the bases with one out and Rendell lifted the game winning sacrifice fly to centerfield to score pinch runner Andrew Cote (Hampden Academy) to end it. Kelly had two hits in the win, while Ryan Garner (4-0) picked up the victory on the mound in relief with one perfect inning. Avery Lawrence (Deering) went the first eight innings allowing two runs on five hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Matt Gonyeau (0-3) suffered the defeat for the Hornets. Starter Carlos Rodriguez also fired eight innings throwing 131 pitches and giving up two runs (none earned) on seven hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. #4 Lyndon (16-24) was playing in an elimination game against Thomas College on Thursday night. Husson (22-16) has now won 11 straight games and will play #2 SUNY Cobleskill on Friday at 11 a.m.
