Rice and King homer as Husson softball beats UMF at the NAC Tournament

Lydia Rice (Winthrop) hit a first inning two-run homerun that ended up being enough in the end, as top seeded and #19 nationally ranked Husson softball won their 59th consecutive league game by defeating UMaine-Farmington 4-1 at the North Atlantic Conference Tournament at O’Keefe Field in Bangor on Thursday afternoon.

Camryn King (Nokomis) added the other two runs in the Eagles victory with a sacrifice fly in the second inning and a solo homerun in the fifth. The Beavers, who had won the first game played in the tournament earlier on Thursday over SUNY Delhi, were held to just one hit. Natalie Simpson (Bucksport) worked four innings in the circle in falling to 5-6 giving up four runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts. UMF (15-18) will take on SUNY Cobleskill in an elimination game on Friday at 9 a.m. Ana Lang (Searsport) improved to 21-3 for Husson allowing one run on one hit with one walk and eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings. The Eagles, winners of 13 straight games, will take on #2 Thomas College on Friday at 1 p.m.
