Colby softball lost their opening round game of the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament 7-2 on Thursday afternoon to #21 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at O’Keefe Field in Bangor.
Victoria Ramirez sparked some early offense for the Mules with a two-run first inning triple, but that was all they could muster. The Engineers scored five runs on four hits in the last of the fourth, as they pulled away for the victory. Arianna Kumar had three RBI and Ava Ladd had two to lead MIT (34-9). They will play Endicott College in the first game of the day on Friday in a winner’s bracket contest at 11 a.m. Sharlotte Stazinski (9-6) lost in the circle for Colby allowing six runs on eight hits over four innings. The Mules (26-12) now face a familiar foe in an elimination game on Friday at 1:30 p.m. when they battle the host Husson Eagles.
