Central softball upsets Washington Academy in a Class C softball quarterfinal

#6 Central scored three times in the fifth inning on Thursday afternoon to break a 1-1 tie, and would upset #3 Washington Academy 4-2 in a Class C softball quarterfinal played in East Machias.

Maddy Frost provided a RBI sacrifice fly in that fifth inning for the Red Devils that turned out to be the game winner. Aili Spack led the way with three hits and two RBI including her first high school homerun, while Frost and Maddie Cox knocked in a run each. Spack fired a complete game in the circle and got the win allowing two runs on five hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts. Lilyana Balyint and Lily Hennessey each had one hit and one RBI for the Raiders. Bella Cirone also went the distance and took the loss giving up four runs on six hits with four walks and 10 strikeouts. Washington Academy ends their season at 13-4. Central (14-3) will host Houlton on Monday in a semifinal contest.
