Hermon got out to a 5-0 lead on Saturday afternoon, and got some strong pitching in defeating Ellsworth 5-2 in a Class B baseball semifinal contest played at Ellsworth High School.
The Hawks scored twice in the top of the first inning to set the tone, then scored single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth. Tommy Meserve had the game winning RBI single in that third inning. Meserve led the way with three hits and two RBI. Sam Hopkins and Edgar Leclerc had two hits each, while Mason Kinney and Conner McAlpine had one hit and one RBI each. Leclerc went the first 5.1 innings on the mound to get the victory allowing no runs on just one hit with six walks and nine strikeouts. Jackson Barry had two hits and one RBI for the Eagles. #1 Ellsworth had won two close one run games over Hermon in the regular season, and wraps up their year with a record of 16-2. The #4 Hawks (13-5) will face #2 Cony on Tuesday at Mahaney Diamond in Orono for the regional title.
