Parker Morin collected three hits, including a game winning RBI triple, and Ben Allen provided some solid relief pitching on Tuesday afternoon as Cony defeated Hermon 4-2 in the Class B North Regional Championship game at Mahaney Diamond in Orono.
The Hawks started quickly by scoring two runs in their first at bat in the top of the first on a two-run single by Mason Kinney, but would be shutdown from there. The Rams responded immediately in the last half of the frame. Nolan Noyes single was misplayed for an error to score a run, and Noyes ended up at third base. Max Tibbetts infield single would score Noyes to tie it. The game remained that way until the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs, Anderson Noyes walked for Cony. Morin was up next, and was swinging at a 3-0 pitch, lacing a triple over the head of Hermon centerfielder Sam Hopkins that ended up being the game winner. Nolan Noyes provided some insurance with a RBI single to score Morin. Hermon only had one baserunner over the final two innings.
Along with the three hits from Morin, Nolan Noyes added two hits for Cony. Morin also pitched the first 3.1 innings allowing two runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts in his no-decision. Allen came up huge in relief of Morin, firing 3.2 innings giving up no runs on just one hit while walking two and striking out five to pick up the victory. Mason Kinney had three hits and two RBI in the loss for Hermon, while Cam Morrison and Hopkins had two hits each. Mason Kinney went the distance on the mound and was charged with three earned runs on six hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts. The Hawks end their season with a record of 13-6. Cony (17-2) will face South Champion Fryeburg on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond in the state championship game.
