Fryeburg Academy would get past Cony 4-3 on Saturday evening to win the Class B Baseball State Championship at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish. It is the first state title for Fryeburg in 43 years.
The North Champion Rams would start quick though in this one, as the first three batters of the game reached as Anderson Noyes doubled, Parker Morin singled, and Nolan Noyes walked to load the bases. Max Tibbetts and Lance Theriault made it 2-0 with a RBI sacrifice flyout and RBI groundout respectively. The Raiders responded immediately in their first at bat all with two outs and noone on base. Noah Day singled, followed by a RBI double from David Rosales. The next batter Brady Chappell would line a two-run homerun over the fence in left for a 3-2 advantage. An error scored a run to extend the lead to 4-2 in the second inning, before Wyatt McKenney got Cony back within 4-3 with a sacrifice fly in the third. Fryeburg turned a huge doubleplay in that third inning to get out of it without anymore damage, and then held the Rams to only two baserunners the rest of the way.
Anderson Noyes, Morin, Nolan Noyes, and Theriault had the hits for Cony. Tibbetts, Theriault, and McKenney had one RBI each. Ben Allen kept the Rams in the game with four scoreless innings of relief on the mound. Landen Perry was tagged with the loss allowing four runs on four hits over two innings. The Rams finish as runner-up with a record of 17-3. Rosales had two hits for Fryeburg, while Chappell had two huge RBI with his game winning homerun. Oliver Dean pitched a complete game to get the win giving up three runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. The Raiders (17-3) capture their first state championship since 1983.
