The Sanford Mainers extended their win streak to five games on Monday night by winning twice against the Vermont Mountaineers at Goodall Park in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
The first game was a continuation of a suspended game from July 1 in Vermont that picked up in the bottom of the third inning. The Mountaineers, playing as the home team, had a 5-1 lead after six. Sanford exploded though with four in the seventh and four in the eighth to take the comeback victory 9-6. Albert De La Rosa (University of Maine) had three hits and five RBI to lead the way. Domenico Tozzi (Coastal Carolina) had the game winning two-run double in the eighth. Michael Bradshaw (Merrimack College) got the pitching win in relief, while Jasper Nadel (George Washington University) earned his first save.
In game two- The Mainers got a three-run double from Jack Tate (St. Johns) in the bottom of the third inning to cap off the sweep with a 6-4 win. Jackson Sirois (Maryland) added two hits and scored twice. Samuel Young (Richmond) picked up the victory in relief on the hill, and Matt Mahoney (Northeastern) struckout the side in the seventh to get his third save as Sanford improved to 21-11. The Mainers have a 3.5 game first place lead in the North Division with 13 games left in the regular season. They’ll return to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to take on the North Shore Navigators in Lynn, Massachusetts at 6:05 p.m.
