Alton Potter hit what turned out to be a game winning two-run triple in the first inning on Friday afternoon, and Jackson Harris went the distance on the mound as the Hammond Lumber Post 213 Riverhawks (White) defeated Newport-R&R Construction Post 17 (Rhode Island) by a score of 6-1 in the New England Junior Legion Baseball Regional Tournament in Manchester, New Hampshire. The Riverhawks move on to the winners bracket on Saturday in the single elimination format.
Gaige Farrar had three hits and a stolen base to help spark the offense, while Collin Mehrhoff and Joey Newell added two hits each. Newell also added one RBI and scored two runs. Harris in his complete game allowed just three hits and one run that was unearned, with three walks and six strikeouts. The Riverhawks will play the last game of the day on Saturday at 6 p.m. against either Massachusetts state runner-up Braintree Post 86 or New Hampshire state champ Merrimack Post 98 for a chance to advance to Sunday’s championship game.
