The Old Town football team made a statement in their season opener. The Coyotes made the short trip to Orono and would crush the home standing Red Riots 48-6 in a matchup of 8-man squads on Thursday night.
Senior quarterback Ethan Closson put on a show in the victory. Closson connected with Alex Bean for touchdowns of 32 and 70 yards in the first quarter, wedged around a 20-yard scoring scamper by Tommy King as Old Town jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the opening 12 minutes. Closson added a 58-yard TD run of his own in the second, along with a 2-yard TD pass to Brandon Schanz. He capped off his night with a 53-yard TD pass to Micah Brodeur in the third quarter. Charlie Degrasse added the final score for the Coyotes on a 65-yard run. Closson had four passing TD’s, one long scoring run on the ground, and three successful 2-point conversion throws (two to Schanz). Old Town, out of 8-man Large School North, will play at MDI next Saturday afternoon. Backup quarterback Glen Mavis accounted for the only points for Orono with a 41-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter. The Red Riots, out of 8-man Small School North, will play at Old Orchard Beach next Friday night.
