Dexter took the opening kickoff and never trailed in a 20-12 football win over Houlton on Friday night.
Dexter held the ball on the opening possession of the game for just over five minutes. Tristan Hopkins-Watrous capped the drive with a touchdown run. Bodhi Langlais converted the two-point play.
Will Simpson ran into the end-zone to give the Tigers a 14-0 lead with 6:49 left in the first half. Langlais had a long pass to Carter Freeman to set up the score.
Houlton responded with a Hunter Sanford touchdown run with 3:24 left in the first half. A big pass play from Sanford to Lincoln Lovely set it all up.
Sanford threw another touchdown pass, this time to Bentlee Sirois to cut the deficit to 14-12 heading into halftime.
The teams played a scoreless third quarter. The Tigers got on the scoreboard again on the first play of the fourth quarter when Langlais threw a deep ball to Landon Adams that ended with Adams going into the end-zone.
The Tigers defense made multiple fourth-down stops in the second half to hold on and get their first win of the season.
