HAMPDEN- Senior Reese Doucette scored two goals, including the game winner on a penalty kick on Tuesday evening in leading Fort Kent girls soccer to a 3-0 win over Orono in the Class C Northern Maine Championship game played at Hampden Academy. It is the fourth straight regional title for Fort Kent.
After a handball in the box was whistled against Orono, Doucette got the game winner when she successfully scored on a penalty kick with 32:43 left in the first half. Freshman Hayden Plourde doubled the lead for Fort Kent 12 minutes later, before Doucette finished off the scoring with 13:18 left in that first half. The Warriors beat the Red Riots in all three games on the season, and after allowing Orono to score a total of four goals in their previous two head to head meetings, Fort Kent was locked in defensively not allowing any good scoring chances on the night.
Orono, who was seeking their first regional championship since 2016, ends up with a final record of 11-5-1. Fort Kent (14-1-2) will now appear in their fourth consecutive state title game (fifth in last seven years), and will try to win their first since 2018 when they beat Maranacook. The Warriors will get their rematch from 2018 and from last season when they face those Maranacook Black Bears on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Lewiston High School. Maranacook won last season’s match 5-0.
