DOVER-FOXCROFT– The Washington Academy boys basketball team overcame a 15 point deficit to earn a 72-66 victory over Foxcroft on Friday night.
Drew Dankert made 7 three pointers, including four in the first quarter to help the Ponies build the lead to 20-5 midway through the first quarter. The Raiders outscored Foxcroft 12-4 in the last three minutes of the quarter. Hyatt Smith scored six points in the second quarter as the Ponies held a 42-32 halftime lead.
Washington Academy had six different scorers in the third quarter as they outscored the Ponies 18-9. Jim Lin made two free throws with three seconds remaining in the quarter, he followed that up with a steal and a layup to cut the deficit to 51-50 heading into the final quarter. Kyle Case went 8-11 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, while Lin went 4-5 to secure the victory for the Raiders.
Dankert led the Ponies with 24 points and five rebounds. Smith put in 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Max Santagata scored 10 points and pulled down five rebounds. Jeremy Richard added eight points, five rebounds, and two steals. Joshua Reed put in three points, while Cameron Marsh and Riley Richard chipped in with two points each. Foxcroft (2-15) will finish their season when they host Orono on Tuesday.
Case led the Raiders with 22 points (10-15 FT). Lin recorded 16 points (10-11 FT), seven rebounds, and two assists. Justin Villone scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Yontz Sutton also finished in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds. Justin Su scored eight points, while Sean Seavey tallied five points and nine rebounds. Washington Academy (11-5) will host Old Town on Tuesday night.
Foxcroft shot 3-7 from the free throw line, while the Raiders shot 25-40. Washington Academy out rebounded the Ponies 38-27.
