Husson softball sweeps UMPI to end the regular season, extending their program record winning streak-
The Husson University softball team finished a historic regular season on Sunday afternoon by sweeping UMPI up in Presque Isle in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader by mercy in five innings in both 17-1 and 17-0.
In Game 1- Husson broke the game open by scoring five runs in the fourth inning and seven in the fifth to roll to the win. Tayler Watterson, Bulla McCabe, Tori Exel, Kenzie Dore, Kiara McLeod, and Lydia Rice had two hits each. Lyndsee Reed had three RBI, while Watterson, Exel, Dore, and Reed also drove in two a piece. Danielle Masterson (11-1) went 4.0 innings in the circle to get the win allowing no runs on one hit with one walk and eight strikeouts. Dalaney Anfinson had the lone RBI for UMPI, while Megan Buchholz (2-7) took the pitching loss.
In Game 2- Dore had three hits and six RBI, and Husson scored nine times in the fifth inning to finish the sweep by mercy. Camryn King drove in three, and Reed also had two RBI for the Eagles. Ana Lang (16-2) and Jazmin Johnson combined for the five inning no-hitter. Lang went the first 3.0 innings with no walks and eight strikeouts, while Johnson didn't walk any and struckout three in the final 2.0 innings. Hailey Saylor (2-2) lost in the circle for UMPI, as the Owls regular season ends at 4-21 and 4-8 in conference play. Husson ends the regular year at 32-4 and 12-0 in the North Atlantic Conference, and will now prepare for the conference tournament.
Husson baseball sweeps UMPI on their final day of the regular season, as Jackson Curtis breaks two program records-
The Husson Eagles continued their solid late season play by finishing off their regular season with a North Atlantic Conference sweep over UMPI up in Presque Isle on Sunday afternoon.
In Game 1- Three Eagles pitchers helped to shut down the UMPI Owls offense, holding them just one hit in a 6-0 victory. Jackson Curtis gave Husson all they needed with an RBI double in the first inning, and he also hit a two-run homerun in the third. He had two hits and three RBI, while Hunter Curtis (two RBI) and Akira Warren had two hits a piece. Freshman Wyatt Stevens (1-0) out of Bangor High School picked up his first collegiate pitching win in his seventh appearance of the season allowing just one hit over 4.1 innings. Ben Phillips and Tanner Audyatis split the final 2.2 innings on the hill. Garrett Chadwick (0-3) went the distance in the loss for UMPI.
In Game 2- Seven different players recorded at least one RBI, as Husson capped off the sweep with an 11-0 win. Warren and Matt Holmes had two hits a piece, with Holmes adding two RBI. Jackson Curtis hit another homerun, a two-run shot, his fourth consecutive game with a homer. Curtis, Warren, Holmes, and Keegan Cyr all hit longballs. Holmes (2-0) also picked up the win on the mound. Ian McRay (0-2) was tagged in the loss on the hill for UMPI allowing five earned runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings. The Owls still have two games left in their regular season, falling to 3-25 and 2-16 in the NAC. Husson finishes at 20-10 and 16-2 in the conference, winning 12 of their final 13 regular season games and will now get ready for the NAC Tournament. Jackson Curtis with his two homeruns Sunday became the all-time leader at Husson for homeruns hit, and also became the first player in program history to hit a homer in four straight games.
